Dwight White Mural

Dwight White Mural Ties Students to Surrounding Community

Students entering Norris University Center through its west entrance will be greeted by a multi-panel artwork created by Chicago-based artist and creative consultant Dwight White II (BA '16, MS '17). The mural, completed during Wildcat Welcome, features four faces and symbols connected to Northwestern's surroundings. Learn more about the mural and Dwight here.

2024 transfer students

National Transfer Week is October 21-25

National Transfer Student Week is next week, featuring many exciting upcoming events. The Transfer Student Social is on Tuesday, October 22, from 5:00–7:00 PM in Parkes 122, where students can expect dinner, music and games. On Friday, October 25, NCA will host an event for transfers to discuss career planning strategies in the Norris Wildcat Room from 11:00 AM–12:00 PM. They will provide snacks for attendees.

Renting Declassified: Living off Campus

NU Dining Filipinx American History Month

October 22, 5:00–8:00 PM, Sargent Dining Hall

NU Dining is partnering with NU’s Kaibigan to celebrate Filipinx History Month at Sargent Dining Hall on Tuesday, October 22, during dinner. Our Sargent culinary team has crafted a menu with some of the most popular Filipino dishes, including pancit and chicken adobo. We’ll also be sourcing desserts from a local Filipinx-owned bakery.

Kaibigan, Northwestern’s student-run organization dedicated to promoting Philippine culture through education and exposure, will serve halo-halo.


McCormick Global Initiatives Fair

Big Ten Academic Alliance Cybersecurity Gameshow

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. The Big Ten Academic Alliance is partnering with the National Cybersecurity Alliance for an online game show to compete against Big Ten rivals in Level UP Your Cyber Game – College Gameday Edition!

Prepare for a fast-paced, high-energy game show with exciting challenges and strategic dilemmas. You’ll sharpen your cybersecurity skills and gain practical tips to protect your digital life.


Buffett Institute Open House for Undergraduates

October 29, 4:30–6:00 PM, Buffett Institute for Global Affairs, 720 University Place, Second Floor

We’ve moved! Come to an open house to see the Buffett Institute’s new space at 720 University Place. We’ll have cuisine from around the world and tell you more about our opportunities for students to engage globally. You can contribute to international development through our new Elliott Scholars Program, conduct your research abroad through our International Senior Thesis Research Grant, connect with faculty and fellow students at our events and more.

Coffee Talk Fall 2024 – Second Meeting

Coffee Talk is a over coffee, tea, snacks, and fun games. Share and exchange stories. Support each other in navigating friendships, cross-cultural adjustment to academics and living in the US, overcoming imposter syndrome, homesickness, relationships, career, stress and anxiety, and other relevant topics. Kindling Conversations

HPaW Opioid Overdose Prevention & Naloxone Training

Searle Hall, 633 Emerson St

This is for students interested in being trained to administer Narcan (naloxone). Attendees will learn how to recognize signs of an opioid overdose, identify when it is appropriate to use Narcan, administer Narcan to an individual they believe is experiencing an overdose, and identify additional emergency steps to take. Upon completion of the training, all attendees will receive a two-pack of Narcan.


HPaW Red Watch Band: Alcohol Bystander Intervention Training Request Form

Have you ever had to help a drunk friend but weren’t sure exactly what you were doing? The training will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to identify, prevent and intervene effectively in an alcohol-related medical emergency. You’ll also learn about how alcohol affects our physiology and behavior, signs and symptoms of alcohol poisoning and the truth behind common alcohol-related myths. for your student group, club, fraternity, and sorority TODAY!


 

Wirtz General Auditions

The Wirtz Center for the Performing Arts is holding general auditions for our Winter ‘24 shows. We hope that you consider auditioning for one or more of the many productions that will be happening at Northwestern this year! Gale School Service Day - Volunteers Needed

Invest a few hours serving at our closest CPS school on Saturday, October 26, from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM! We will clean and decorate a space to create a new music room! Elliott Scholars Program

For undergraduates seeking to learn about and contribute to international development, the Buffett Institute for Global Affairs has launched the . This program allows a cohort of undergraduates to engage deeply in a critical issue in global affairs. The program includes a two-quarter course sequence in the winter and spring, followed by a summer internship abroad through the Global Engagement Studies Institute (GESI) offered by Northwestern’s Global Learning Office. Apply by October 28!


 

NCA: December 2024 Investment Banking Career Trek to NYC

November 4

Northwestern Career Advancement is hosting an Investment Banking Career Trek to New York City. This trek is for students who identify as sophomores and plan to actively apply to investment banking internships for their summer 2026 experience as early as winter break 2024/winter quarter 2025. NCA staff will guide students through a two-day experience visiting more than five investment banks. Students will be responsible for arranging their lodging and transportation to and from NYC.


NEXT Registration Open!

November 11

Registration is now open for the Northwestern Externship Program (NEXT), a shadowing program that allows current Northwestern students to accompany alums on the job to explore different professional fields. Students must create a profile by October 30 and apply by November 11. This year, the program will be conducted both virtually and in person. It is co-sponsored by Northwestern Career Advancement and the Northwestern Alumni Association.


WebAIM Digital Accessibility Training

November 19, 10:30 AM–12:00 PM

This live, online training course hosted by WebAIM, a premier digital accessibility training entity, is being offered at no cost to you or your department (a $600/per person value) and will cover accessibility principles and techniques for anyone interested in gaining a deep understanding of digital accessibility. This training is for you if you regularly create or edit content online. Basic knowledge of HTML is helpful but not required.

Cybersecurity Awareness Month

Each October on campus, the leaves change color, the air gets crisp, and it's . Northwestern IT has again partnered with the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and the National Cybersecurity Alliance to provide best practices around cybersecurity.


Drop-In Peer Tutoring

See the ASLA Peer Tutors for help with a variety of courses! You can find them Sunday through Thursday at Schapiro Hall, Shepard Hall, Elder Lounge, the Multicultural Center, the Black House, and the GSRC. Subjects covered are biology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, economics, engineering analysis, mathematics, physics and statistics. Check out the ASLA website for specific courses, dates, and times!
